Principle and Rationale

Because requirements for coating suppliers have been specified by automotive OEM customers, OEM customers and Tier 1 suppliers made a joint effort to build confidence in the processes of coating plants. The requirements established under this standard therefore benefit the coating industry serving OEM customers. To achieve an effective process, a system for auditing both the process and the product is needed, so that quality conforms to the standard and the risk of defects from coating processes used in automotive applications is reduced.
