Course Summary
The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) standard is founded on social responsibility. The palm oil industry, especially upstream production, has disturbed the natural balance and contributed to deforestation and forest clearing for palm plantations.
RSPO sets controls from the source, the plantations, through collection points and palm oil mills to downstream industries that use palm products as ingredients, such as food and cosmetics. Manufacturers that use palm oil ingredients therefore need to understand and apply the system to meet RSPO requirements. Certification is divided into three main supply chain models: Identity Preserved (IP), Segregated (SG) and Mass Balance (MB), together with controls for transparency and traceability. Participants also need to learn the RSPO database, which has moved from PalmTrace to PRISMA.
Course objective
- Recognise the importance of implementing a system to the RSPO requirements
- Build knowledge and understanding of the RSPO requirements and the PRISMA sustainable palm oil database, and apply them in the organisation
- Build skills and techniques to meet the requirements, raising the organisation's management system towards sustainable development and its strategic plan, in line with customer needs and RSPO expectations
- Conform to RSPO and to other applicable standards as appropriate
